A tragedy has befallen Ross Hannaford, the guitarist of iconic Australian band Daddy Cool.

In the early hours of Saturday morning Ross Hannaford’s white 1989 Toyota Hi-Ace Van QRN 479 was stolen from a Yarraville street. The van was most likely stolen by joy riders, but the real loss is the musical equipment concealed under a tarpaulin in the back.

Ross has lost all his amplifiers, his main guitar, and all his effects pedals. True to Hanna’s totally eccentric style, these are no ordinary instruments. They are one-offs and custom made’s. Here’s a description:

Chandler 555 Guitar – customised and hand painted in Red Yellow and Green sunray design – see photo below.

Ampeg Jet II amplifier

rare 5 watt Diason Amplifier

Home made amplifier in Diason Cabinet with Peavey 158 Blazer head and Marantz 12″ speaker

Green and yellow Indian “hippy” bag with Boss Phrase Sampler, MPX phase 90 and Tremit Tremolo pedal

These instruments are totally irreplaceable, and Ross is not interested in anything but recovering his beloved instruments.

Please help us let the world know that Ross Hannaford has befallen this dreadful fate and hopefully by some miracle, the instruments may be spotted and returned.

Cheers,

Mark

[please propagate this bulletin to help Ross get his gear back!!!]

If you hear of anything then please contact Mark immediately.

About

Hailing from Perth in Western Australia, Dave Warner formed Australia’s first punk band PUS back in the early 1970s. By the time The Sex Pistols had formed, Warner had already moved on to a new phase of music and social commentary which he dubbed Suburban Rock. His band Dave Warner’s From The Suburbs was a major Australian pub band playing with the likes of Men At Work, Midnight Oil, INXS, Dragon and Skyhooks. His albums were highly original and successful, tapping into the psyche of the ordinary Aussie boy and girl.

History

Dave formed The Suburbs in January 1977. The group developed a huge underground following, which led to Dave signing with Australia’s Mushroom Records in 1978. His first album, Mugs Game, went gold within a month of release. Dave’s second album, Free Kicks, was released in 1979.

After the original Suburbs disbanded, Dave followed up with Correct Weight (1979), This is My Planet (1981 – reissued as This is Your Planet in 1996), Meanwhile in the Suburbs (EP – 1989), Dark Side of the Scrum (1989), Suburban Sprawl (1990), Surplus and Dearth (1995) and Loose Men, Tight Shorts (1996).

After the release of This is My Planet, Dave Warner retired from writing and performing music full-time, turning instead to writing plays, novels and screenplays.

About

Dee Minor and the Dischords has delivered Raw Energy to the stage of Australian Pubs and Clubs since 1978. Heavy touring around the country in the early 80′s with Midnight Oil, Radiators, Cold Chisel, The Angels, MiSex, Swanee, Choirboys, Divinyls, INXS, Matt Finish, Mental As Anything, IceHouse, Rose Tattoo and others. They brought a unique brand of entertainment to the pub scene.

Based in Sydney, and headlining their own shows from 1981 to 1987, Dee Minor and The Dischords ripped up stages with their wild brand of rock and live on stage energy! After returning to the stage from a ten year absence they fired back in “The Boys Are Back In Town” shows from 1997 – 1999.
